Legal information
Telehealth Informed Consent
Information to review before choosing to receive care through remote communications.
Nature of telehealth
Telehealth uses electronic communications to exchange health information and may include asynchronous review, secure messaging, telephone, or video visits depending on clinical needs and state requirements.
Potential benefits
Potential benefits may include convenience, improved access, faster communication, and continuity across follow-up activities. Benefits are not guaranteed.
Potential limitations and risks
Limitations may include technology failure, incomplete information, privacy risk, delay, lack of physical examination, or a need for in-person evaluation. A clinician may determine that telehealth is not appropriate.
Alternatives and withdrawal
You may ask about alternatives and may withdraw telehealth consent as permitted by law, without affecting rights to future care, subject to actions already taken in reliance on consent.
Emergencies
MOVA is not an emergency service. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for urgent or life-threatening symptoms.
